What are centimorgans (cM), is a common question.
If you’ve taken a DNA test, you’ve probably seen matches measured in centimorgans but what does that actually mean?
A centimorgan (cM) is a unit used to measure how much DNA you share with someone. The higher the number, the more closely related you are.
It’s not a physical length of DNA, but a way of estimating how likely pieces of DNA are to be inherited together.
In simple terms: centimorgans help us work out how closely two people are related based on shared DNA.
I help people to identify their long lost genetic relatives through DNA match results analysis and results/tree research. Remember, no question is too silly. You can contact me on my contact page on www.DNAinvestigations.co.uk
